Although Mary loses her first match and finds herself in 200,000 yen debt, Tsuzura lends her the same amount, and Mary gambles again, winning this time. Shortly after her arrival, Mary has her first gambling contest against Kokoro Aiura, the top gambler in Mary’s class. The first friend she makes at the school is Tsuzura, whom she has known since grade school. Unlike most of her peers, Mary doesn’t come from a wealthy family and has enrolled at Hyakkaou on a scholarship. Hyakkaou is where the future leaders of Japan are created. The prestigious school is soon going to celebrate its 121 st year of foundation. I bid you all farewell. Both the manga and anime renditions of ‘Kakegurui Twin’ are set a year before the events of Kakegurui – Compulsive Gambler.’ In episode 1, titled ‘A Girl Named Mary Saotome,’ Mary arrives at Hyakkaou as a transfer student. If you agree or disagree, you know where to show you pleasure or displeasure with my blog. I'm still so bewildered by what I watched that it's still kinda unbelievable that they thought that this was the best idea they could have come up with. In closing, Kakegurui's ending was lackluster to me. They put themselves into a metaphorical box where they tried to appease to the anime and manga crowds, and failed at both as a result. And if they do, they either have to write around this ending to make it flow with what happens in the manga which will hurt the overall narrative even more than what they did here, or retcon this ending altoghther which makes creating this ending pointless. OMG WHAT A PLOT TWISTIE!!!! Ok maybe a more minor point here but what was the point in making an original ending AND having it be open-ended? Isn't the point of an anime-original ending to, you know, end the story? TO NOT LEAVE THINGS OPEN? If you were going to have it be open-ended, why didn't you just follow the manga instead? There was no way you could've wrapped all the leftover threads that this show had in 24 minutes (which they didn't, obviously) so why not just leave it open? This screams "we want to give a 'definitive' ending but we also want to make a season 2 if we get enough money". The most safe, predictable outcome that hurts no one. That was infinitely better than anything that happened in this episode. I know that there wasn't a ton of it considering that Yumeko couldn't possibly lose that game, but at least that episode showed how Glasses-kun's life essentially got ruined for playing into Yumeko's trap. Hell, there was more tension in the very last episode before this one. All the tension from this scene evaporates once you start to think about it. Her leaving the school holds virtually no weight because she could very well just live a fairly normal life and find other ways to gamble. So what if she loses and leaves the school? It's not as if she can't gamble elsewhere. Our MC Yumeko doesn't CARE about the school's connections or power. The school has connections and power and all that stuff. I know that this is supposed to be a big deal. Could you not really think of anything better that flipping over cards as the climax between the two most important people in the series? Really?īut what about the loser? The absolute hellish consequences that the loser wil- oh they will just have to leave the school. But the final games is just flipping over Tarot cards. The rock-paper-scissors game from episode 1 and the choice poker game from the episode right before this one are examples of games (minus the rampant cheating) that I could genuinely see playing with my friends, if I had those. You know, one of my favorite parts about the show are the games that the characters play. The final battle! The game will be so insane and so much will be on the line! It'll be the bes- oh so we're just going to flip Tarot cards. We were finally going to get Yumeko vs Kirari the Council President. But seriously, this ending was so damn anticlimactic. I have searched far and wide and I cannot for the life of me find the tension anywhere. I'm looking for something in this finale, but I can't seem to find it.
